Newbie here, we all know that Prison Break is filled with brainy people that has all the tendency and reasons to out-smart each other. Now, it's obvious (and popular) that Scofield would come up on top and Mahone would be second, so I'm wondering who's next? (Among the primary characters)
Here's my personal list/ranking:
1) Scofield
2) Mahone
3) Kellerman
4) Bagwell
5) Don Self
6) Lincoln
7) Whistler
8) LJ
9) Sucre
10) C-Note
Those are my top-10, I'd appreciate it if others would share.
Thanks,

Lol,exactly!! Michael wimped out and hired a contractor to build the Christina Rose, but not our haywire!!
I dunno,id say Michael is the smartest by a country mile, even though the only character I really like is Mahone,id still say Michael is better. After all,Michael did outsmart Mahone all through season 2.
"Just when you start to get close,I will win, everytime"
Still my favourite Michael Quote yet.
1)Michael
2)Mahone
3)T-Bag (may not be 'college' smart, but hes a brainy dude
4)Kellerman
5)Whistler (doesnt get enough credit,he did create the whole plan for stealing Scylla and the break in remember)
Though it interests me,look how many times that Mahone, the law man,has been arrested.I count 4 at least (Sona, start of season 4,at the racetrack and then by Lang and Wheeler)
Michaels been caught a few times too,4 i think (Fox river, although that was deliberate,at the border in season 2,sona and then in chicago in season 4)
Kinda makes me laugh that the 2 smartest guys have each been caught by the law several times in the space of 3 months.

Good to see you back, though. I know it'll probably be June next time you visit us, but still. *waves*
OT: I don't think anyone can come close to Michael and Alex by smartness, if that's a word.

I happen to think that Linc is one of the smarter characters on the show because he has savoir faire in doing smaller operations and he is quite a perceptive guy, he picks up and notices things (using the knowledge he has from his experience as career criminal in reading people and reading how situations will turn out), but he can still be tricked/fooled some of the time.
When he enters a room or a situation he tries to sense out what is going on.
Sometimes he is emotionally driven - especially with how many people he likes to kill in Season 4 so far.
Sometimes he offers up suggestions to Michael that Michael even considers. As a tactician he isn't so bad, out of everyone on Scofield and Co. I would put him only second to Michael and Alex. I definitely think he can plan better than Sara, especially because he has some experience. I'd rank Sara just above Sucre (because she, not so often contributes ideas that get accepted with the planning but she can sometimes piece together or reason some stuff that Sucre isn't able to think of the same reasoning), but I really think that Sara and Sucre are very closely matched - I guess when it comes to practical stuff Sucre will think more like Linc's thinking style = a thinking style based on experience, in this case I favor Sucre over Sara.
I think on sheer cleverness or smartness, Linc beats Gretchen. Gretchen has knowledge and experience so she sometimes can be better at some of the planning, but on cleverness and smartness alone I regard Lincoln to be the better of the two.
They have both outsmarted each other so they are really also another close match. But I think Lincoln has a more broad range of experiences so he is more useful for more than one purpose - especially with more civilian based crime or activities, I think he reads people better than the two.
But if it came down to Linc or Gretchen giving Michael suggestions somehow I think Linc would be more useful in general, and Gretchen better for her inside knowledge of Company matters and for military-like planning.
Let's not forget the planning he was doing with Sucre in Season 3 - in that partnership I'd say Linc was Michael and Sucre was Linc when comparing the roles each character had in those respective partnerships it to the Michael and Linc partnership.

Good explanation!
Thanks, and nobody yet has placed Linc in 3rd place after Michael and Alex (regardless of who placed either of these 2 in first place). I think a couple people came the close and gave Linc 4th place.
